Jarman International’s team consisted of CEO Ruth Marie Jarman, as well as JI Core 50 consultants Lila Klopfenstein, Chiara Terzuolo, and Paul Walsh.

The name “Sagiryu Kyogen” denotes the Sagiryu school of Kyogen comic theater, which today can only be seen in Yamaguchi Prefecture and a few other places. Often paired with longer, more serious Noh dramas, the short Kyogen plays aim to make audiences laugh. Although Sagiryu Kyogen flourished in Yamaguchi during the Meiji period (1868–1912), it later began to decline, and a local preservation association was formed in the 1950s. 

Jarman International submitted a photo taken during the consulting trip — depicting the team trying on Sagiryu Kyogen costumes — to the Times Gallery, a photo feature published by The Japan Times. The photo was included in the Gallery’s March 2026 edition.

“All of us were laughing so hard we were literally crying! The two sensei, Taro-san and his father, did such a great job depicting a daimyo lord on a visit to a large town who is missing his wife but at the same time quite afraid of her. It was a joy to experience Kyogen for the very first time,” Jarman says.

Jarman International is honored to be able to learn about this rare traditional art form and contribute to its preservation.

・Jarman International has hosted a charity golf cup at EastWood Country Club in Utsunomiya, Tochigi Prefecture for over five years, raising funds for many organizations including Mirai no Mori, Second Harvest, and Common Grace.

・Many of Jarman International’s advisors and consultants published articles highlighting the charm of our various clients on influential platforms such as  the Japan Times, Japan Today, and Atlas Obscura.

・Social media experts at Jarman International have helped grow the official Facebook (298,000+ followers) and Instagram (15,400+ followers) pages for Kochi Prefecture since 2021.

We recommend that you take at least two or three days to explore Kochi, to really slow down and relax. As locals are used to welcoming and helping pilgrims on the 88 temple pilgrimage, you will find that they are friendly and happy to see new visitors. But watch out, you may never want to leave!

Kochi, in particular, the Shimantogawa River area, is definitely one of the shining gems of Shikoku. Jarman is thrilled to help get this information out to visitors from within Japan and around the world.

We had a great meeting with the Ministry of Environment representative about how to release the destination power of Japan’s National Parks including Shinjuku Gyoen.

It was a meaningful day for all and as target audience consultants we felt the Botanical Gardens should be promoted much more. Also, adding a bit of classical music to the park at certain times or on certain days would also be an interesting attraction for new visitors.

During the sit down discussion following the review, the Core 50 was able to offer advice and constructive criticism to the on-site team. A true haven amid the busyness of Shinjuku, we hope many more people find peace and beauty in this park. Did you know that every type of Cherry Blossom can be viewed here?
