Yonezawa ABC is a newly launched official social media account that shares beautiful photos and stories from the city of Yonezawa, Yamagata Prefecture.

Jarman International CEO, Ruth Marie Jarman, discusses Yonezawa City’s great potential as a tourism and living destination

Yonezawa City is located in Yamagata Prefecture of the northeastern Tohoku region, famous for delicious sake, nationally renowned beef, hot springs, and more. Ever since Jarman International helped organize the innovative sake webinar last November (available to watch HERE), which was broadcasted from the 400-year-old Toko Brewery in Yonezawa, CEO Ruth Marie Jarman has become increasingly involved with figuring out how to spread the word about this hidden gem in Tohoku to internationals.

One of these opportunities was a seminar held in late January, where Ruth contributed to the discussion around Yonezawa City’s great potential as a tourism and living destination.

During the seminar, Ruth sat alongside other key women who are actively working toward promoting Yonezawa to the broader international community through their own diverse businesses and passions.

From the importance of building a city where the younger generation can live comfortably and confidently, to making sure that locals are prioritized and being heard, there were an array of insightful points that were highlighted during the seminar.

Jarman International team visits Yonezawa to explore all of its historical, cultural and gourmet gems! (Yamagata Prefecture)

During a weekend in mid-October, Jarman International CEO Ruth Marie Jarman along with four JI Core 50 members headed to Yonezawa city in Yamagata Prefecture as part of a monitor tour. This year, Jarman International is becoming more involved in helping people discover the incredible beauty of Yonezawa city, located a little over 2 hours from Tokyo by train.

One of the places the JI team first visited in Yonezawa was the over 200-year-old Namekawa Onsen, which uses the hydroelectricity generated by the nearby Maekawa River. Here, you can dip into the open-air hot spring bath surrounded by the lush nature of the Azuma mountain range for a full rejuvenation of your mind and body.

Yonezawa is also well-known for their beautifully marbled, sweet, fatty and melt-in-your-mouth beef, which you definitely won’t want to miss during your visit!
