]]> There’s really not a lot I can say about the Tokyo Skytree that hasn’t already been said or written about. But as a long-term resident of Japan, I will admit that I was completely blown away by seeing this technical marvel first hand.

Zipping up hundreds of meters in seconds is an incredible feeling, and seeing the sprawl of Tokyo from the top of country is even more amazing.

I visited recently and had a terrific time. The Skytree and the entire experience was so much better than I could have ever imagined. To get the most out of your trip, I recommend the following:

* Go on a weekend, not the weekend – and go in the morning if you can to avoid the crowds. You’ll also have more time for shopping later on.

* Reserve your ticket online: http://www.tokyo-skytree.jp/en/reservation/ Open new window
Again, this is to avoid waiting – possibly for hours – in queues and crowds. It’ll cost you a few more coin, but it’s totally worth it.

* Bring. A. Camera.

* Pay the extra 1000 yen to go all the way to the top. You’ll be surprised what an additional 100 meters can do to a view. Also, the walking around in the galleria is far more fun than the lounge deck.
