BIO:  Phil’s career has spanned both the public and private sectors, with more than 30 years living and working in East Asia mostly devoted to helping Australian businesses, in all kinds of industries, to do business in East Asian markets and to facilitate investment between Australia and Asia. Phil has worked at the senior executive level in the Australian public service and those of Victoria and Queensland. In addition, Phil knows intimately the challenges and rewards of doing business in Asia having run his own Asia advisory business for eight years and having directed business development teams in four Austrade offices in Asia for more than 13 years. His experience extends to working for Nomura in Tokyo, the Foreign Investment Review Board in Canberra and senior roles as the Victorian Trade and Investment Commissioner in Japan and Korea, the North Asia Manager for the Queensland Department of State Development and the Australian Trade Commission’s Senior Trade Commissioner in Fukuoka, Tokyo, Beijing and Hong Kong. In mid-2008, he was based in Beijing to manage Austrade’s Business Club Australia – Australia’s international business program at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. Phil is currently developing new business opportunities in high-end tourism between Australia and Asia, trading as www.ShumiStayJapan.com.au. Phil’s career also includes more than 30 years’ experience as a Board Director with Australian business chambers in Tokyo, Osaka, Brisbane, Beijing, and Hong Kong. Phil completed the International Company Directors Course in 2012 and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Phil served on the Board of Fraser Coast Opportunities Ltd from 2014 to 2015 and has been an Advisor to the Board of Language Discovery Ltd since 2014.
